Young Fife learner driver wins brand new car!

TEENAGER Kayleigh Edwards won a new Fiat 500 – then admitted she would have to step up the driving lessons.

The 17-year-old from Dundee was picked from thousands of entries in the Good Egg young drivers’ competition and got the keys to the bright red motor at Arnold Clark Fiat in Kirkcaldy on Tuesday.

But Kayleigh is still learning to drive so the car will have to stay at her house. She laughed: “I am completely overwhelmed and it is very hard to put into words how excited I am. I didn’t think anything like this could happen – I know everyone says it but it is true, I have never won anything before.

“I couldn’t believe it when Good Egg Drivers phoned up and said I had won a car.

“I have had about 20 lessons and it is going well. Hopefully I will pass my test just before or after Christmas. It will be so frustrating to have the car and not be able to drive it.”

The car, donated by Arnold Clark, was all part of a drive to raise awareness for young drivers - and the keys were handed over by The Scottish Sun Rookie Racer Christie Doran, who is also an ambassador for the road safety campaign.

She said: “It was a real buzz to be able to give away a Fiat 500 and Kayleigh is a great winner. She is the proof that you can win a car just by answering a few road safety questions.”

Campaign chief Jan James admitted: “It is great that Kayleigh has won this. She is still at school and just about to pass her driving test. She said that she found a lot of information on www.goodeggdrivers.com that she had not known before.

“Hopefully, it will make her a better and safer driver and it is a privilege to be able to give her the car from our amazing sponsors, the Arnold Clark Group.”

Kayleigh reckoned the competition was a winner for teenagers. She admitted: “I didn’t enter until a few weeks before the closing date. I didn’t think I stood a chance because it had been running since March. But I thought there was no harm in trying.

“I would definitely recommend it for next year. Before, I thought no one won these things but I have been telling everyone I have won and they should enter next time.

Jan added: “We had nearly 5,000 entries this year and we have a VW Polo for next year, which is fantastic. It will be drawn next autumn so keep an eye on our website GoodEggDrivers.com.”
